Nancy Huhta Comello has had a long career in inpatient obstetrics. She obtained her BSN degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was certified as a nurse midwife from Frontier Nursing University, received her master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and her DNP degree from Frontier Nursing University. She provided direct patient care in labor and delivery, antepartum, and postpartum units for 35 years and also was a full-time faculty member educating baccalaureate nursing students for 10 years. She is currently employed by UnityPoint Health-Meriter and University of Wisconsin Health as an obstetric outreach specialist and is enthusiastic about educating nurses, midwives, and physicians about evidence-based practice and facilitating obstetric emergency simulations for obstetric providers. Nancy is a certified
instructor for Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and an AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring Instructor Trainer and an AWHONN Obstetric Patient Safety Designated Instructor. She holds certifications in Inpatient Obstetrics, Maternal Newborn, Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), and Obstetric & Neonatal Quality & Safety
(ONQS).

She is a co-chair of the Global Health Initiatives Advisory Panel and the Southcentral Wisconsin chapter co-coordinator of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, & Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), and a member of the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Professionals (WAPC). She is also the president and founder of a non-profit organization, Supporting Safe Birth, Inc. focused on educating Guatemalan birth attendants and midwives.
