There are plenty of conference presentations and webinars focusing on how to develop an effective QA/QI program and analyze data from EMS documentation. Rarely does anyone talk about how to effectively teach EMT's and Paramedics how to effectively document. Good documentation is integral to good patient care, transfer of care, reducing liability, provide accurate data, and improve billing returns. This presentation will take a holistic approach to documentation training with recommendations following the path of a provider from initial training, to on-boarding/orientation, to field training. It further describes how supervisors and company officers can review and coach before reports even reach the QA/QI team and the data analysts. By focusing on adult learning styles, motivational techniques, development of field training programs, and officer training a department or agency can improve the documentation of their providers.
