Nonaccidental trauma in children can be easy to miss and difficult to act on in the prehospital setting. Anchored by a real clinical case, this session walks through the epidemiology of pediatric physical abuse, sentinel injuries, and bruising patterns, including use of the TEN-4-FACESp screening tool to help distinguish accidental from abusive injury in infants and toddlers. The session also covers common historical red flags that lead to missed cases, trauma-informed strategies for interacting with children and caregivers on scene, and Wisconsin's mandated reporting requirements - giving EMS providers practical tools to recognize, respond to, and appropriately report suspected abuse.
