Understanding how law enforcement can and cannot assist EMS in situations where adult patients are refusing further care or transport. Explain the limitations of state laws placed on law enforcements ability to place adults in protective custody and compel persons to obtain medical care, specifically WI SS Chapter 51 and 55. Review cases and case law that pertain to this issue. Discuss best practice documentation for calls that end in a no transport, specifically when the provider feels a transport should have occurred.
