Doug is currently employed by Clarkson University as its first Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). He accepted this challenge after being involved with EMS for 30 years. His passion for EMS education started in 1992 when his college advisor encouraged him to take an instructor course for every EMS course he took. After graduating from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s in Health Science, he continues to instruct EMS courses in Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support and EMS leadership programs. His career also includes a distinguished 20 years as a New York State Trooper. Doug was responsible for equipping all the New York State Troop vehicles with AEDs and training over 6,500 employees in CPR and AED use. Building a new forty-hour EMS program for the trooper academy that the academy still uses today was also another one of his proud achievements. After serving eight years in a special Emergency Management position as a Sergeant that oversees the dismantling of clandestine drug labs, he retired in the Spring of 2022 to better utilize his EMS expertise at Clarkson University. While maintaining his nationally registered paramedic skills on several local ambulance services in the region, he also continues his EMS ambitions by leading E5 Support Services, LLC. E5 has been supporting local ambulance agencies in staffing, training, and consulting for over 13 years. Doug is happily married for the past 24 years and resides on a small farm in Canton, NY with over 30 animals!
