Operational K9 Medical Team of Wisconsin

Operational K9 Medical Team of Wisconsin

The Operational K9 Medical Team of Wisconsin is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2020 by Dr. Lisa Converse, Lyn Schuh, and Kris Eggleston. The team provides education and support for law enforcement and first responders throughout the state of Wisconsin. Their mission is to equip these professionals with the skills needed to deliver top-level "point of injury" medical care to injured Operational K9s and ensure their safe transport to higher-level veterinary care.

The team collaborates with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and members of the human medical community to deliver comprehensive training and resources. They are committed to being the leading resource for point of injury care for wounded Operational K9s, promoting best practices, and supporting legislation like Bill 435, which advocates for K9 transport laws in Wisconsin.

Additionally, the Operational K9 Medical Team of Wisconsin maintains an OpK9 registry to track the working history and injuries of Operational K9s, aiming to prevent line of duty deaths. In 2023, the team blood-typed 100 K9s at the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handler Association Conference, with the goal of blood typing all Operational K9s in the state to improve emergency care.
